100 Who Care
Helping us care for others

The Board of the Houston Galveston Institute invites you to join 100 Who Care by pledging $1,000 to underwrite the cost of indigent care.

Many of our clients pay on a sliding scale from $0-$85, with $85 being our cost. Of those on a sliding scale, 50% or more pay nothing. However, we do not want to turn them away!

Donor Advantages

For donors who pledge $1,000, there are both tangible and intangible advantages:

Tangible advantages:

• Email and Web updates about HGI
• Invitations to special meetings, educational programs and events
• Annual benefactors event
• Listing in publications including the HGI Annual Report
• Tax deduction for the full amount as provided by law

Intangible advantages:

• The joy you feel in knowing you have helped clients discover the tools to change their own lives
• The peace that comes from supporting someone less fortunate than you
• The inspiration you feel from knowing this is one of the highest and best uses of your philanthropic dollars
• The knowledge that you may have helped save a life

Donors

For more than 30 years, HGI has used a post-modern, collaborative approach to provide therapeutic mental health services to those in the community who are often underserved, such as children, families in crisis, trauma victims and the uninsured. Our unique methods create an atmosphere in which solutions rely heavily on the client’s input, strengths and resiliency.

Many of HGI’s clients are unable to afford mental health services and require financial assistance. To help ensure that every member of our community receives the counseling they need, we offer a sliding fee scale that allows clients to pay as little as $25 per session. But we are only able to do so through the support of our donors.

In addition to our counseling services, HGI is world-renowned for our training and research programs. Each year, we train as many as six Masters and Doctoral level interns in collaborative modality. We have also had five Fulbright scholars study at HGI, and our summer sessions held in Mexico are sold out year after year.

On November 5, 2011 HGI will honor Gwen and Ed Emmett for their commitment to Mental Health with our Champions for Change award. Gwen and Ed Emmett are true champions for mental health, especially children’s mental health. Their work in this regard, with the many initiatives that they have supported and been active participants with, include: the Joint County/City Commission for Children; the Harris County Juvenile Board; and, the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative. In addition advocating through editorials in the Chronicle and bringing the Big Tent Conference to Houston, among many other activities, are well worthy of this honor.

Mark your calendars and make plans to join us for a lovely evening of fabulous music, gastronomique bites and decadent desserts.
